Jack the Ripper

What sort of person could have committed such ghastly murders? A monster, that is for certain, but what do we know of monsters - what do they look like? The image that most people have for the monster who became known as Jack the Ripper, was the dark figure of a man in a top hat and flowing cloak who carried a doctor's bag, which supposedly contained his knives - the tools of his trade.
If only it had been that simple, he would have stood out like a sore thumb in the slums of the East End and would have been caught long before he committed all six murders which have been attributed to him.
There have also been claims that Jack the Ripper was a member of the Royal Family - a famous physician - a well known artist - an American Doctor - a British actor/manager - where do we stop? How come not one of these so called suspects were ever identified by witnesses as being in the vicinity of the any of the crimes at the time?

It stands to reason that in order for Jack the Ripper to go about his murderous business on the streets of Whitechapel he had to be a person of those streets - a person who would cause no concern by those who saw him - probably a resident of Whitechapel, a relatively ordinary looking person whom, under different circumstances, could be trusted and would not be given a second glance, as opposed to the image of a raving maniac lurking in the dark shadows, ready to pounce on almost any female that should cross his path.

This then is a picture of my suspect, an ordinary respectable looking gent, who, in my opinion, got away with murder.

One of Jack's Victims

This is a police photo of Catherine (Kate) Eddowes. She was murdered on 30 September 1888, the fourth victim of the killer known as Jack the Ripper.

Her abdomen had been carved open, her viscera taken out and draped over her right shoulder, with a portion detached and deliberately positioned between the body and left arm.

The face had been mutilated, an ear cut off, her eyelids slit, her nose severed, her cheeks sliced and her throat opened. Her liver had been stabbed, the pancreas cut and the uterus removed, and the left kidney had been carefully excised and taken away.
